The Black Rider
Unrealized Scenic and Lighting Design
for Master Class, Spring 2010
at the University of Maryland
MFA in Theatre Design Program
Master Class is an invite-only, multidisciplinary class. Students are required to do a complete production design for assigned projects, giving them the opportunity to conceptualize and research a scenic, costume, and lighting design. Based on the students' area of focus in the MFA program, they are then assigned to bring certain areas of the design past the initial concept/research phase into visual representations of the world of the piece. The class was taught by Daniel Conway, professor of scenic design and head of the MFA in Design program, and Brian MacDevitt, professor of lighting design.
